Our Bottle & Bottega Journey
Our team at Bottle & Bottega is excited that all our hard work has paid off and we’ve been able to open our very own studio location in beautiful Des Moines. We wanted to share our journey and inspire others who may be dreaming of bringing art, fun, and wine to their communities. In the past 14 months, our team has learned so many things, and we are still learning. Here is our Bottle & Bottega journey!
Signing Our Franchise Agreement
We joined the Bottle & Bottega team on May 15, 2017 when we signed our franchise agreement. It was the first step of our exciting new path, and we were stepping out on faith. We didn’t know quite what lay ahead of us, but we couldn’t wait to find out. Little did we know of all the amazing learning opportunities we’d face and all the wonderful people we’d connect with during our process.
Popping Up All Over Des Moines
Our first step to build our brand in Des Moines was to start by hosting pop-up events throughout the city. We were very fortunate to partner up with some amazing businesses, including Fire Creek Grill, Vino209, Los Charros Mexican Restaurant, and the Des Moines Social Club, who enabled us to bring wonderful private and public events to life. We also connected with the Animal Rescue League (ARL) of Iowa, who helped us to kick off our “Creating for a Cause” initiative. With ARL, we made our dreams of using art to support worthy causes come true and we partnered with them to support their Iowa Dog Jog event. We also hosted “Paint Your Pet” FUN-raising events to help raise money and awareness of their mission.
Finding Our New Home
We knew that our new studio location would have to be just perfect—welcoming, easy for our guests to find us, and in a stylish, fun part of town. There were many locations considered before we settled on our current location, 1301 Locust Street, Suite E. Our studio is nestled in the heart of the Des Moines’ Western Gateway Park. We’re excited to be neighbors with the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park, as well as a number of exceptional restaurants, thriving corporations, and other attractions. Whether you’re an art-lover or a wine-lover, you’ll love our new neighborhood.
Building a Space for Art
After signing our lease for our new home on November 3, 2017, we got to work creating a space where our guests could create in comfort. We learned many lessons on architectural design, construction budgeting, and our local and state building codes as we completed the process. We began demolition of the original space in March, and completed our chic, gorgeous studio on June 1, 2018.
Kicking Off Our Studio
We decided to kick off our studio with a soft opening event on June 7th. In honor of Prince’s 60th birthday, we held a Purple Celebration to welcome our guests to the Bottle & Bottega experience. Our first guests loved the party and we’re so glad we could engage them and show them just how much fun creating their very own art could be.
Our Grand Opening event was celebrated on June 28th. With approximately 70 of our friends, family members, and supporters, we uncorked our brand new studio with a ribbon cutting ceremony by the Downtown Chamber. After, we celebrated with music by DJ DAS and food and wine catered by Fourth + Court Hy-Vee. The event was documented by the talented A. Cannie Photography. Our guests enjoyed painting beautiful murals and also helped us to raise more than $1,100 for our local Zeta Kappa Lambda Education Foundation.
Since then, we’ve had a wonderful time engaging our guests and visitors—many of whom come to the local sculpture park, are taking a lunch-time stroll past our studio, or are enjoying a local art festival. We’re proud to introduce the art-lovers and the wine-lovers of our community to the Bottle & Bottega experience!
